Shocking Discovery At Melbourne Airport

CUSTOMS officers made a shock discovery when they found 10 stun guns stuffed in luggage at Melbourne airport.

The illegal electric shock devices, which look and function as a torch but deliver a high-voltage shock, were found by officers during a baggage search on Monday.

A flick knife was also discovered.

A 54-year-old Australian man, who had arrived on a flight from Bangkok, is expected to be charged with breaching the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956.

Australian Customs National Manager of Investigations, Richard Janeczko, said the devices were capable of delivering a nasty shock.

"Travellers should be aware there are significant penalties for breaching prohibited import regulations and make themselves aware of what they can and cannot bring into Australia," he said.

The offence carries a maximum penalty of $275,000 and/or 10 years in prison.

Funnily enough, in the UK they would probably deal with the matter under the terrorism laws... in which case, the importer would be looking at the inside of Paddington Green, and have a series of deeply unplesant interviews scheduled with counter terrorism departments... some extremely serious people.

Even assuming that the importer could convince the interrogators that these items were merely for fun or profit, HM Customs would gleefully take over the case with considerable enthusiasm... all that before the civilian Police got a look in and chatted to the idiot about his intended use for these prohibited weapons.

For 10 stun guns / tasers the case would be reported in the news, and the individual would be lucky to get away with 5 years for a first offense... considerably more for a man with a record.

Something really annoys me about the guys that try to sell that stuff to you when you are out mongering. One minute you are staring into some cuties eyes and enjoying your beer and the next you are looking at electric shock devices flick-knives and tazers.

more than liikely will get a small fine and a slap on the wrist.

a friend got 1 through melbo customs a few years ago.

anyways if he got them through they could fetch anywhere from 300 to 500 each on the black market.

10 x 500 = $5000 - this can pay for your next holiday to LOS

The poor guy will be tried under some terrorism law, since we spend billions and lots of people are paid high paying jobs to combat terorrism and we havent actually found any yet, this poor bastard will probably held up as a shining example of how the system is working and hell get 125 years strung up by his nuts.

In the UK they cum under firearms law not terrorist legist-ration

If you dismantle them and bring the copper winding ONLY no law broken

But do not bring the metal pulse switch, this will show intent

But you could of course send the switch by post as a gift to a friend

If you feel the need to have such a defensive weapon

But practically you’re better of with a defence spray

And what do you think is wrong with that?

The guilty party may have had a bad upbringing, no foreign holidays only one car and tv in household etc. Anyone who resorts to crime deserves a bit of love and support.

If I were the judge I would give him double social security benefits and a free trip to eurodisney so that he no longer has to resort to crime.

May sound stupid but the UK's answer to having overcrowded prisons is to lower sentences and let prisoners out early but may I suggest they just build more prisons???? just a thought!!!

...I had been traveling with a "maze/tazer" in my leather jacket pocet for years without problems and had totally forgotten about it untill in HK. Where did you get it? "in china town BKK" I said. How much did it cost? "80 bhat". After some paperwork with the airport police I was free to go.

...in May 2008 I saw maze/tazer and powerful stunn guns for sale in front of the Banglamung police station at Sukumivit Road amonst other illeagal things in Schengen. Open mon - wed mornings.

WOW! That's really stupid to try and do somethinglike that. Now days it just doesn't pay to try and get by with smuggling.
