Thai AIr JFK to BKK- Can't book

So when I go to Thai's site and all JFK to BKK flights seem to be cancelled from now till next Feb. I called up the 800 number and the person on the line said that they were re-evaluating the flight, going to change planes or have less flights. I assume that people who already booked won't have their flights affected to much, but does anyone here have any more info or thoughts?

It would be ashame to loose this flight as I love it. It would also suck if they decided to double the price or something.

There are going to be a lot more cancellations bankruptcies etc. in the airline industry...to be honest I am suprised it hasn't happened more yet. You can't expect the airlines to continue to be able to fly at the rates they have been when oil is over 135 dollars a barrel! All of them buy oil futures to protect themselves against high oil prices...but when it soars this high even that does not help anymore. It sucks...but the era of traveling anywhere relatively cheaply is over - that is until someone comes up with another fuel.

Try Sam Varee at [email protected] I booked LAX=BKK on thai air and he was 25dollars less than the thaiair website. I have used him many times and if anything, he will know what is up with the JFK-BKK route. If you cant get ahold of him...pm me and I will get his phone for you

It's official JFK-BKK nonstop has been canceled and LAX-BKK will be cut back to five days a week - read about it here.

That just added another 6-8 hours of travel time to LOS for me.

This sucks. Looks like Im flying to LAX. Come to think of it, LA having the only direct flight in the US to LOS and having med. weed, makes me think its time to relocate.

Here's the email I got from Thai:

Dear Sir

Thank you for e-mail of 06 June.

We are sorry to inform you that THAI now terminate

New York flight effective date 01 July 2008. If ticket was issued

Kindly contact THAI office in New York or Los Angeles Office for

further informations.

Sorry for inconvenience may caused to you.

Yours Sincerely,

O**** T*******

One of my NY friends is flipping out. He has a major business trip to LOS with departure on July 3. He's scrambling like hell to re-arrange his trip, but isn't getting any sensible answers from Thai. It is majorly unusual that an airline cancels a route like this with so little advance notice. Apparently Thai isn't taking any responsibility, they are only offering to refund the cost the ticket, they aren't interested in helping with re-routing the trips. I have a feeling a lot of corporations will avoid Thai from now on whenever they can. What I understand, the flights in July and August outta JFK were damn near fully booked. You would think they would have waited until at least Sept. 1 to end the service on the route .

It's not only Thai that are evaluating their flights and routes. It is expected oil will remain at or above 135 for the foreseeablo also evaluatee future.

The only airlines not under extreme pressure are for obvious reasons MEA, Qatar, Ethihad, Emirates and Kuwait Air.

They pay less for their gas than we do for water. You can still expect a bit of a price hike on flights over 7 hours even with these carriers as they cannot get back to home base without refuelling.

The more flights airlines like Thai cancel the less competitive these airlines need to be so book ahead, even consider buying a 1 year open ticket if you don't know your travel date. The best are Qatar and Emirates

I was really bummed out when I found out about this. I loved that flight and Thai Airlines!

Fenris, an alternative is ANA out of Dulles to Tokyo and then to BKK. There is a 3 hour layover in Tokyo. The bad thing about this flight is that you get into BKK around 11:30PM. It will be 2:00 AM by the time you hit Pattaya. All in it is over 24 hours of time traveling. Ticket prices with ANA are pretty good, however their Premium Economy is not cheap.

I believe this is a codeshare United flight as it is the one I take every time. I have a friend that lives in Tokyo that has taken the ANA flight NRT-IAD and it was on United metal, not ANA. And you're right, with layover, travel time is about 24 hours. Sucks living on the East Coast sometimes. Usually get in right after 11PM, in Patts by 12:45AM, not later than 1AM. If you check bags, it will take a bit longer.

I have been lucky to have always been on a ANA 777. I work near Dulles airport and I start day dreaming everytime I see the ANA flight take off around lunch time.

Just book Prem-Econ on Thai's direct flight from LAX. Did this now for August in part becasue I read that this flight may also be discontinued in September.

They might be cutting some flights out of NYC, LAX is still healthy right now - i'd prefer NY myself

NY is gone already, last flight is the end of June. LAX they have said will not be direct anymore, as of September.
