I would like to know if any of you have travelled between these two places,

and if so what is the best way, is there a direct flight or is it a train trip??

Cheeers in advance for any info.

Did you ever feel that just by jumping on a plane, All your cares would drop away

And you'd be born again,Returning to a nature child,

Happy wild and free.

Sorry for late reply. There is no direct flight or train.. VIP sleeper bus is about 12 hours and 500 baht. You can also fly from Chiang Mai to Udon Thani and catch a bus to Khon Kaen.

I have drove it many times, great scenic journey, not to sure if the train is direct, definately no flights to Khon Kean you would have to go via Udon Thani about 100k away.

...my friend who was on a budget, took the bus from the bus depot in Patts to chiang mai and

he said he was absolutely miserable.

If I ever go to Chiang Mai, which is something I've got to do sometime, I'll probably go

back to BKK for a few days of fun and fly up there.

short flights in Thailand along with other close countries aren't that expensive

I've done that trip many times,by car and bus, it is quite scenic as you come through the mountains around Nam Naaw National Park.

Plenty of buses between the two places and very cheap. The VIP buses are much faster than the ordinary ones, although if you have the time, the ordinary, non-air-con buses do have a certain charm, I've been picked up by Thai girls in them in the past (we just jumped of the bus together when we reached her home town and found a cheap hotel), just grab a seat near the back and buy some beers at one of the stops on the route. You will soon have a party going.

Of course if time is valuable then flying is much faster.
