The phrase "mak mak" is used loads but I always just say "maak".

 

They both mean "alot" so why do people say it twice?

Not sure....maybe just a language oddity, or maybe like saying very very much....someone with better Thai skills will have to answer this definitively.

Thats basically it. 'Maak' is a lot and 'mak mak' is very much. Kid thueng khun mak mak teelak :P

Missus says its just an emphasis like we might say "I love you very much" or "I love you very very very much".

 

Technically both mean the same thing, one is just emphasised - as per the "english" version its not more correct nor less.

True, another example. Reo Reo - very quickly. The double dunting is done with these types of words for emphasis.

Nice one. Just seemed a little strange lol. Still will stick to "maak" as dont want to show them I'm too interested in them :rolleyes:

 

Just thought though, surely very much would be "maak maa" as maa is very. My Thais ok but I'm no expert but "dee maa" is "very well". Sorry I'm just being annoying but I like to know the meanings and context of phrases.
