Bars Closed again!

whitespider - RIP

Recommended Posts

Yet again the bars will be closed today and tomorrow for elections. This time for the Pattaya Mayoral elections.

Alcohol sales and public celebrations are prohibited from 6 p.m. Saturday, May 3, until midnight Sunday, May 4.

Its crazy enough Thailand closing down for general elections but for Pattaya to elect to follow suit it madness itself. Given that the city would not even exist were it not for the holiday makers this repeated closing of bars etc is little better than professional suicide.

Don’t they understand that a tourist coming here only to find the city at a standstill on a weekend is likely to simply never return? OK that might be a little extreme but they will be miffed to say the very least.

The mayors office, and the other powers that be, should be doing everything possible to ENCOURAGE tourism not to put them off. If that means fighting the bureaucrats in Bangkok then so be it.

Just ask any small business owner and they will tell you that Pattaya is already in serious decline and ludicrous acts like this are just making matters worse.

I assume that the “logic” behind all this is to prevent Thais from drinking in the hope that they will go to vote instead!?

Well hold on Mr Mayor - tourists pay your wages and tourists pay for your nice Sukhumvit central flower reserves (have you ever seen such a waste of money when schools need cash and the drains still don’t work). However tourists cannot vote in your elections so why ruin THEIR holidays?

Sometimes the logic here defies logic itself!

Patts needs a strong association of bar/gogo owners. There is so much money lost on those election days, if just every bar owner puts a lil money together it should be enough to bribe the problem away...

Rising air flight prices, early closing times of go go bars and nightclubs, poor baht exchange rate, bans on nudity in bars, frequent 'dry' days....it just seems to be one thing after the other and I am getting pissed off.

I guess they are trying to get a pattern of normality into the lives of the locals, maybe some sense of community commitment and accountability?

I don't buy out the bar, I buy the nightspot.

When the life as you live it goes titts up, can you press Ctrl-alt-delete to remove it or is that only on the internet?

Well you can always stay at home and jerk off or go to AC :) which I am thinking about doing for a weekend to see if it's any good, or I might even try Cambodia but not on my own :)

TIT.

You can always stay in with a bird and fuck her silly. Throw a little house party have a well stocked fridge, bar, and a good bag of weed.

The most unfair thing about life is the way it ends. I mean, life is tough. It takes up a lot of your time. What do you get at the end of it?

A death. What's that, a bonus ? I think the life cycle is all backwards.

You should die first, get it out of the way. Then you live in an old age home. You get kicked out when you're too young, you get a gold watch, you go to work.

You work forty years until you're young enough to enjoy your retirement.

You do drugs, alcohol, you party, you get ready for high school. You go to grade school, you become a kid, you play, you have no responsibilities.

You become a little baby, you go back into the womb, you spend your last nine months floating... you finish off as an orgasm.

It's perfect !

  • 2 weeks later...

The closing of bars during election times is primarily done to stop thai chaps from drinking themselves silly and then putting their "x" in the wrong box . The same good logic follows for stopping shops selling alcohol during certain hours of the day. Now we wouldn't want to upset the status quo and have the streets full of drunks would we?.

In December when I arrived the bars were closed for 2 days when I arrived, whats the issue you can get booze somewhere if you must have it.

It was funny walking down Soi 6 all closed

Yes it's easy to get pissed on these days. We brought a bottle of Sang som to a Thai BBQ. But it is a pain if you are on a two week holiday and the bars are shut for the best part of 4 days, especially if you are reasonably new. We were lucky that we knew are way round and had a phone full of numbers. I would not have been so lucky on my first couple of trips!!

what are the weed laws in thailand, i would like to smoke some there but if its harsh laws i can go without

Thailand is not the place you want to get caught using drugs. Should you get caught, and especially being a foreigner, you will be shelling out a lot of cash. Go to Amsterdam if you want weed, or even Vancouver.....

If it floats, flies or fucks, RENT IT!!!!! "He who hesitates, masturbates"
