Belgian Doctor commits suicide?

Just after Midnight on Thursday, Police Lieutenant Colonel Samai from Banglamung Police Station was called to house number 3/316 at the Atapon Village in Nong Pla Lai to investigate the apparent suicide of the Belgium owner of the house, Doctor Gerrard Carpent aged 55.

His body was discovered on the back porch of the house by his friend known only as “Robert”

An inspection of the body revealed a single gun shot wound on the right side of his head. The weapon, a small revolver, thought to have been used in the suicide was near the body.

Earlier that night, Mr. Carpent was known to have gone to “Robert’s” house for a drink and he was able to reveal to Police that 10 days ago, his Thai Wife, Khun Yuan brought a Thai man, thought to be her new lover, to Mr. Carpent’s house and he proceeded to assault Mr. Carpent.

It is also known that Khun Yuan took cash, diamond rings and gold necklaces from the house and removed 3 Million Baht from a joint bank account and the pair were in the process of divorcing after a 10 year relationship. All this is thought to have led Mr. Carpent to take his own life, moments after he was taken back to his house by his close friend. Police think this was a suicide, however the case remains open as neighbours reported hearing two gun shots and there were marks on the victim’s head which cannot be explained at this time.

The Belgium Embassy are working closely with Police at this time to determine if this was indeed a suicide or not.

Sounds like murder to me. The guy was crazy to leave 3 million baht in a joint account. That is more than most Thais earn in a lifetime. However, the deceased's ultimate revenge will come when the wife's new bf cleans her out and leaves.

seems like it comes down to the one shot or two issue. Agree he is mad leaving that kind of money in a joint account, mad to leave in any account in Thailand for that matter

You have no problem with money in a Thai account, when you put it in a Thai's account, from what I have seen so far, you get fucked. It doesn't cease to amaze me the bullying that seems to have gone on of late of vunerable farangs this is very sad.

Thats sounds very fucking dodgy! These stories only reaffirm the wisdom of staying single in LOS! :):Chokdee3:

The real lesson is that if married in LOS only keep a small amount for emergencies in a joint account; say 100,000 baht. Everything else should be in in the husband's separate account, preferably in his home country.
