Review: Seaside GH Soi 3

astray

Recommended Posts

Seaside Guesthouse, Beach Road Soi 3. Haven’t seen much on this place so here’s a report if anyone’s considering it. The stay was in mid March. Rates here are constant, no changes across seasons.

The good:

1) Had booked ahead for five days, reserving a THB650 room. Room was larger and better fitted out than expected. However, later learned I’d been given a THB850 room. Can’t say if the booking had anything to do with it or if just a fluke, but you may want to bear it in mind.

2) Wi-fi at no extra charge (yet see below).

3) Not an old place, not yet run down, and well maintained overall. Very tidy premises.

4) Competent if occasionally surly staff (though to be fair they seemed just very tired). But if you prefer glum competence over smiling stupidity, then…

5) Convenient spot. Couple minute’s walk to Beach Road and the baht buses. You could throw ten baht to Second Road, quite close. For some it might be too far from main action but nonetheless plenty of bar beers and a couple of go-gos nearby.

6) No problem with hirelings in the room.

The bad:

1) Noise, at least on one side of the building—the soi 2 side—which is hard by a Thai pub and restaurant with live music until two, three, maybe later. If you’re making it an early night you’ll be thumped. Making matters worse though, if it hasn’t been an early night and you want to sleep in there’s frequent racket from the same area because of morning deliveries, the banging of a metal staircase running up the side of the building and just general clamour of one sort or another.

2) Weak wi-fi signal. One router on ground floor. I was on first floor and usually had to step out the door to get a signal. Would be surprised if signal reaches second and third floors at all.

3) Noticed that some of the standard rooms don’t have a window. They’re just walled-off inner spaces.

As far as any recommendation, if you can get a room on the soi 3 side then give the place a look, but if only soi 2 side or windowless rooms are available then give it a pass.
