Where to change currency?

Hi

In many countries, the exchange rate given by the currency exchange counters at the airport (just after clearing customs) really sucks in comparison to what you might get outside the airport - as much as 10% difference (but of course, the downside is that you have to search for those banks/exchange outlets that will change currencies). Just wondering if anyone has an experience of Bangkok airport exchange rates vs what some bank might give me in Pattaya. I figure that if there is a significant difference, then I will change just enough $$ to reach patts comfortably and then change the rest in Patts itself. BTW - does thailand have holidays on Labor day (May 1st or 2nd) - since I'll be reaching BKK around May 1st?

I find using ATMs is the best way to go when travelling these days. Very convenient and the exchange rate is more consistent.

We are always running for the thrill of it thrill of it

Always pushing up the hill searching for the thrill of it

On and on and on we are calling out and out again

Never looking down I’m just in awe of what’s in front of me.

ATM's are the way to go and doesn't matter which one you use. I always get competitive rates and my bank doesn't charge any additional fees. You can't beat the convenience and there are ATM's everywhere. You should still bring cash just in case you have any problems with your card.

Change just enough at the airport to get you to Patts. Then keep an eye on the exchange rate, It's displayed outside most money exchange booths. Almost one on every corner! and they do vary slightly.

During my last trip I watched the rate rise from just over 26THB to 1AUD, to over 29, in just three weeks. Glad I bought all my gifts at the end of the holiday. Today the rate is a little over 32 and seems to be rising consistantly. If it keeps going like this my trip in just over two weeks is going to be even better than last year.

The best rates i have ever found in Pattaya are at Bank Gold which is located on Soi Rungland about 20 meters in to the soi on your left.

To get to Soi Rungland, go down third road, turn left at Pattaya Tai (South Pattaya) and it is the first soi on your right.

Not all chemicals are bad. Without chemicals such as hydrogen and oxygen, for example, there would be no way to make water, a vital ingredient in beer.

Yep, just change enough for the first night, taxi and girl. Take a walk around the next day and have a look at the money changing booths.
