Never feel very safe in much of the Philippines.  Way too much crime and assassinations and kidnappings...

I second that emotion. Have spent a fair number of days there, but always have a sigh of relief when the plane takes off.  Never actually experienced anything bad, but nerves were on edge a few times. Its really too bad as the Philippines have a lot to offer, and bend over backwards to get retirees. However, safety has to account for more than the cost of living....

It's the one you don't hear that gets you, and the one you don't see coming that traps you.
