DSI seizes 50,000 abortion tablets

The DSI seizes more than 50,000 abortion pills that were being sold over the internet in Nakorn Pathom. Over 20,000 customers had purchased the drugs.

BANGKOK – December 12, 2013[PDN]: Mr.Tharit Pengdit, the general of the department of special investigation or DSI, announced the seizure of abortion pills sold through the internet, over 50,000 tablets had been seized from Mr Somchai Sunanjarern, and Mr.Agkunvanich, who live in Nakorn Pathom, after detectives suspected that the two were selling the drugs via a website.

Mr.Tharit announced the arrests after coordinating with the Ministry of Public Health that there was an illegal website selling abortion pills, so he informed the Office of Information and Technology to conducted an investigation. They found a total of 9 different types of abortion drugs, so they planned to entrap them by pretending to be one of their clients.

They also searched a house in the central area of Nakhon Pathom and found about 50,000 tablets that would have been sold through their website. They also found evidence that they had sent the drugs more than twenty thousand times. The 2 defendants were arrested and are waiting a court appearance.
