My return trip leaves BKK at 8:30 AM, what is the best cheap way to get to BKK in time? My experience in the US is to get to the airport ~3 hours ahead of time which means I should be at BKK around 6 AM. So I think I should leave Pattaya around 5 AM at the latest. Seems a bit too early for the bus, is there any other good (cheaper the better) options? I'd assume I could hire a taxi, but not sure if there are minibuses that leave around that time or other options.

I leave Pattaya 4 hours before the flight leaves. That gives me 2 hours for the trip and 2 hours at the airport. If the trip takes a bit longer there is a bit of a safety buffer.

 

For a flight leaving at 8:30am I think your only option is a taxi.

Lucky you, took me an hour and a half to clear immigration on my way out last time, following your plan I would have missed my plane!

OK so what's the best way to get a taxi at 4:00 AM? Are there taxis hanging around the city, or is there a place where I can pre-book? I don't want to be stuck with paying an exorbitant amount because I can't find one willing to deal at that time of day.

You will see plenty of booths around pattaya with signs saying Taxi to BKK 800baht, go and prebook your taxi at one of these booths. I can't remember the exact deposit you pay 100 or 200 baht then the rest to the cab driver?
