It could mean three things....

 

mak (high tone) the Buddhist way, the right path, a noble truth of Buddhism

 

mak (high tone) frequently; inclined towards; prone towards

 

mak (low tone) to ferment; to leaven, to leave in a heap [as in compost or dirty clothes], to lie in a heap, to pile up, to accumulate in a pile

In the context that you are likely to hear BGs use it it means a lot, as PE Gob said. It comes from the word มาก Maak (pronounced long with a falling tone) which means a lot. It is said twice to stress the meaning, although when it is written in Thai the actual word is not written down twice. A character is written afterwards to indicate that it should be repeated มาก ๆ. Words are often said twice in Thai to stress the meaning of words i.e. suung (tall), suung suung (very tall)

As Bryan said its correctly pronounced "mak mak"

 

If you say muk muk you'll get some confused looks.

 

Also say "yak yak" if they start rambling on too much. It means to mouth off
