he Public Health Ministry is preparing to send medicines and saline solution to the Philippines in the wake of Super Typhoon Haiyan which displaced hundreds of thousands of people.

BANGKOK – November 15,2013; As part of the Thai government’s provision of medical assistance for the typhoon-hit Philippines, Public Health Minister Dr. Pradit Sintavanarong said the ministry is now acquiring medicines and saline solution, weighing a total of 60 tons, from the Government Pharmaceutical Organization which are to be shipped to the country. He said 3 medical teams will be sent to the Philippines as well and each team will be on duty in devastated areas for at least 2 weeks.

According to the United Nations (UN), at least 4,400 people were killed by the deadly Typhoon Haiyan, twice as much as the earlier anticipated figure of 2,000. The typhoon, which was one of the most powerful storms ever recorded, also left about 900,000 people homeless.
