Sailor’s Housewife Hobbed by Rich Businessman

Police arrested a rich businessman the owner of a rented room business who is bankrupt due to gambling debts. He tried to raise money for the debt by robbing a sailor’s housewife.

CHONBURI – November 12, 2013 [PDN]; At Sattahip police station, Chonburi province, Pol. Col. Chonnaphat Nawalak (Superintendent of Sattahip police station) together with Pol. Lt. Col. Prakorb Saengphring (Deputy Superintendent), Pol. Lt. Col. Niphon Pomsanarm (Deputy Superintendent) and detective police team arrested Mr. Suriyan or Mud Devamud, aged 34 (who lives in Bangkok), and is a rich businessman of a rented room business, he was accused of snatching and running away with other people’s property. He was arrested with the stolen exhibits which were a hook of a gold necklace weighting 1 THB and a navy blue-black Yamaha Spark moterbike (license number KHOR THOR ROR-799) Rayong in Soi Bonkai, Moo 6 Tambon Sattahip, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.

Pol. Lt. Col. Prakorb Saengphring (Deputy Superintendent) revealed that they arrested the defendant on November 11, 2013 at 8.00 p.m. Ms. Praphakorn Sakoonthawong, aged 32, who is a sailor’s housewife and her daughter were riding their motorbike when they were robbed by the defendant who rode his motorbike beside them, then yanked her gold necklace weighting 1 THB, so she chased after him and suddenly the defendant’s motorbike collided with a motorbike and sidecar which caused the defendant to crash, so Ms. Praphakorn shouted to ask for assistance from bystanders and at that time patrolling police officers where passing by so they stopped and arrested him. But upon searching him the gold necklace was missing and only found the hook of the necklace.

From inspecting the defendant’s criminal history, the police found that he had previous convictions for robbery in the area of Saensuk police station. He confessed that previously he had a rented room business which he could earn revenue of over 40,000 THB per month but he was so addicted to gambling that he had a lot of debts to repay, in his desperation to repay the debts he decided to rob people. He is now on police bail awaiting a court appearance to be prosecuted according to Thai law.
