Unlocked Aussie phones in Thailand and cambodia

G'day fellas. I am looking to buy an unlocked phone here in sydney before I go to Thailand and Cambodia ,so I don't have to buy 2 phones just 2 SIM cards. . Or will a phone bought in Cambodia work in Thailand??? I was looking at a Samsung and the bloke said he wasn't sure about the bands the phones run on would be the same?? Has anyone taken an unlocked phone from Australia and used it in Thailand and Cambodia or would it be better to buy phone in Cambodia and then use it in Thailand?? Any info would be appreciated .

Take my phone from Aus, and just buy a local sim, never had a prob in Thai,. can't comment on Cambodia though

I take 2 phones when I go over, 1 is my everyday AUS iPhone with international roaming, the other is a spare samsung galaxy 2.

 

I just buy a local SIM card (usually 1-2-Call) and top it up with 1000baht credit and off I go, never had an issue using it in Thailand, though had to buy a second SIM card for Cambo.

 

It's actually much much cheaper to ring Aus using the Thai SIM as well because you don't pay as much in hefty international connections fees that the Aus carriers charge.

 

On one occasion a year or so go my spare phone just showed a locked signal and was dead and useless. So a quick trip to the phone shop at Big C and they unlocked the phone within an hour for about 200bht and I've never had another issue.

My Thai bought phone works fine in Cambodia, I just need to change to a Cambodia sim card when I get there

My cheap charlie phone, bought in Philippines 5 years ago, works fine in Thailand, Cambodia, Philippines and Australia. I just change the Sim card over.
