Two teenagers behaved shamefully in Chiangmai, when they used a shoe to bash in the head of foreigner. They had videoed it and then posted it on the internet, telling the police that they did it as a prank.

CHIANGMAI, October 20, 2013 [PDN]; – At 10.00 am. a journalist reported that there was a big ‘buzz’ in Chiangmai about a video clip that two teenagers had made when using a shoe to hit in a foreign man’s head, and then ran off. Surprisingly, there was laughter on the video clip, with a voice saying “you must be famous,” and furthermore, it was posted on Facebook and Youtube. This all happened on a road inside the city canal, opposite the Chiangmai-Ram hospital, in Muang Chiangmai, so when it was transmitted, it upset the local Chiangmai people very badly, because the city is a major tourist attraction.

The old man in the video clip was wearing tight blue pants and a blue jumper and was hit with the shoe in his back while walking along the road and his attacker had signalled his friend to start filming. The video showed that the attackers face was mischievous and giggling, when he walked past an old man and he bashed the head of the man (one time very loudly). Then he ran away laughing with his friends, while the foreigner was stunned and did not know what happened to him.

After the video clip was transmitted, there was an upsetting buzz and disapproval of their behaviour on the internet, with viewers saying that they should not have done that. Many said that if they wanted to be famous, then go to jail and be famous, because Chiangmai was one of the best tourist attraction cities of the north. What they had done was not a good thing and people wanted the police to arrest the two teenagers immediately.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Kraisee Jullapan, who is the detective inspector of Muang Chiangmai police station said, that he knew about the case and the victim was an Italian man, who had notified the police for being harmed. This all happened in the middle of September 2013and the police arrested the boys at 16.30 hrs; – namely 16-years old Mr. “A” (alias), and 16-years old Mr. “B” (also an alias), who were students at a famous school in Chiangmai. They confessed that they had talked to their friends, saying that they would go out to commit a prank on somebody, then drove around the city canal. When they saw the victim, they hit his head with a shoe, before they ran off and Mr. “B” was the one who taped and uploaded this disgraceful event.

After an investigation, the police interviewed the boys regarding the allegation of hurting someone, and also together conspiring to cause the victim harm, (both physically and mentally). They fined them, gave them a warning and then let them go.
