Construction workers notified the police that a 1-year old boy was abandoned by his mother in a workers camp and that she had left to travel with a man 2- nights. The police coordinated with the officers of the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to help the boy and take care of him.

PATTAYA – October 19, 2013 [PDN]; at 9.00 p.m. Police Colonel Supphachai Phuikaewkham, (Superintendent of Pattaya’s Banglamung police station, Chonburi Province), was notified from local residents, that there was a boy abandoned by his mother in a room at the construction workers camp of Lobbuild Co. Ltd. In Soi 12, off Pattaya’s Naklua Road. After they got notification, then Police Colonel Supphachai commanded the police patrol officers to inspect the scene and coordinated with the rescuers of the Sawang Boribultharmmasatharn Foundation in Pattaya to hurry to the scene.

At the site, which is a construction workers camp the officers found a construction worker was carrying the boy named Watcharaphol Yongkate or ‘Boy Earth’ aged 1-year old. The officers questioned 42 year old Police Sergeant Major Kaethong Saenklai, who is the chief of security guards, and he told them about the incident because previously he had heard ‘Boy Earth’ crying very loudly in the room.

He walked to the room and saw the boy was standing alone and crying, so he asked another worker that lived in the next room. The worker stated that he knew that at 4.00 a.m. yesterday the mother of the boy, named M/s. Bang-orn Yongkate, (aged 25 years), was an ex-employee of Lobbuild Co. Ltd, but that even though she was fired, she still stayed at the worker camp as she did not have another house to stay in. On the previous week M/s. Bang-orn had abandoned her son in the workers camp and gone travelling with her new boyfriend for 3–days and 2-nights without caring about her son. Therefore, the construction workers in the camp had felt great pity for the boy and all assisted to find him milk and soft food to eat.

Sergeant Major Kaethong Saenklai (the head of security guards), continued to say that when the mother of a boy came back to the camp, the other construction workers that assisted to take care of ‘Earth’ brought the boy to her and warned her that she should not abandon her son. He stayed alone in the room from the early morning of October 19, 2013 when a man drove a car to pick up M/s. Bang-orn in front of the camp and they went out together, so when she still did not come back to take care of her son, the other workers asked the police to help the boy.

Later, Mrs. Nittaya, who is one of the officers of the “Housing of Children and Family Department” in the Chonburi Province, was coopted by the rescuers of Sawangboribultharmmasatharn foundation to come and inspect this family situation, and take the boy Watcharaphol or ‘Earth’ for temporary care. They will contact his mother to ask her whether she can take care of her son or not, and if she cannot, then the Division of Social Welfare, which belongs to the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security will adopt the boy to take further care of him.
