How to get Star Alliance Gold 'VIP' status with just one flight

I know it has been mentioned before BUT

http://www.ausbt.com.au/how-to-get-star-alliance-gold-vip-status-with-just-one-flight

Basically the crux of this is to tell us how to get Star Alliance Gold Status quite quickly - forget the 'just one flight' headline but the rest of it all makes sense and works

I have just signed up

aegeanair.com/milesandbonus/enrollcheck/

This will be particularly useful to our American cousins travelling to Thailand

You can do this from the UK to BKK in one return flight using Thai Biz class for £2200 ish or Egypt Air Biz class for £1600 ish. It doesn't work on Eva as you only get 150% miles. Thai and Egypt air you get 200%.

I gathered that from reading the Thai blurb - but I am not going to pay £2200 just to get a free flight later on but it may suit someone

My main point is The Aegean Card is a way to get Gold Status a lot more quickly than with Thai which is 70k miles I believe

Yes, I mean using the Agean scheme which includes all other *A airlines. What I meant is that Agean rate different *A airlines at different amounts of miles earned. Thai biz or Egypt Air biz class LHR-BKK return will get you the Gold status across the whole of *A in one trip as the article describes if you direct the miles earned to your Agean FF account.

I am assuming you cannot transfer your current SA Air Miles from the Thai to the Aegean Card

Agean is the black sheep of the *A cards, but by the rules, you should get the same lounge benefits as the other ones.

What you don't get so much, though, is award tickets. Especially with the LH group, they've recently gotten pretty bitchy with their *A compatriots for letting everyone and their dog in to the highest tier.

That's right, you can't.

This guy has a lot of info on the various Cards and Options surrounding Air Miles and knows everything there is to know

That link is for what Credit Cards are best for getting Star Alliance Miles if you have the Thai Alliance card and are based in the UK

His email address is: [email protected]

Most helpful and answered all my questions promptly

If you apply via his referral link you get more points on sign up (for nothing)

Try Turkish Airlines. 40k miles/ year= SA Gold and requalification is  easy since you have 2 years time.

If you achieve 80 k year you are elite plus and automatically for the next 4 year gold member.

Or try just flying a lot. I'm M&M gold, with some other *A silvers. (totally useless, it's just that I'm already full up on M&M).

Next major journey, I'm snag a BA Silver, at the very least.
