Chinese New Year 2008!

As usual the info about Pattaya's festivals is very scarse, this is all I know, if you have more info it will be appreciated!

Chinese New Year celebrations are held in Pattaya between 5-7 feb 2008.

There will be food stalls along the entire stretch of Walking Street and there will be a Chinese Dragon display on Walking Street on the evening of 6 of feb as part of the activities for the Chinese New Year Festival.

There is also a big DragonDance Show in front of Friendship SuperMarket South Pattaya Road, twice during the daytime tomorrow.

Unfortunately I can't find any info about when the shows starts, usually first one starts around midday I think?

First day of the new year is the 7 of feb 2008, by the Chinese Calendar next year is the Year of the Rat!

Celebrated by billions of Chinese in mainland China, but also in other countries with large chinese populations including Thailand!

The Chinese New Year in Thailand

Here's some pictures that I took today at the South Pattaya Freshmarket, with a hectic sale of flowers, foods and sweets, fruits and goldpaper offerings for the spirits and the people for the Chinese New Year!

Expect some smattering firecrackers in the next few mornings!

I'm sorry to inform you that there wasn't any Dragon Dance in front of Friendship SuperMarket this year! <huh

I went down their twice and they infomed my that because of the death of her royal highness princess Galyani Wattana there would be no celebrations this year! :beer9:

Maybe the Dragon Dance at Walking Street is still on tonight, so I'll bring my camera with me down there later.

Somebody just told me that all Chinese New Years celebrations has been cancelled! :GiveBeer1:

Just came back from Walking Street and not a foodstall in sight!? :P

There was a small troupe of Lion Dancers though, working their way up from Bali Hai Pier, going from shop to shop including GoGo Bars.

Here's two pictures:
