Where to get STD test in Pattaya

I'm a bit reluctant to go to one of these VD clinics because they seem unregulated but if anyone has a recommendation that would be helpful. I'd prefer to go to a hospital but what's the best one and how much would it cost? I just need a test for chlamydia and gonorrhea. I've had the tests in the UK and the test for gonorrhea and NSU (non-specific urethritis) was a urethral swab and they also sent away a urine sample which came a week later to confirm I had chlamydia. I'm looking for something similar in Pattaya.

I find most of the clinics in Pattaya to be fine, just look around until you find one you like. Just a thought, it would probably be just as cheap to to a combination Zithromax and broad spectrum anti-biotic flush through than be tested for the two STDs that you mention.

Thanks. I know the recommended medication for chlamydia and gonorrhea but I'm not 100% sure I have either, just the odd "tear" coming from cyclops. That's the same as when I had chlamydia before. I'd rather not take medication that I don't need.

I went to one VD clinic in Pattaya a couple of years back and asked for a urine test for STDs but all I got back was crap like my glucose levels so the correct tests obviously hadn't been done. That's why I'm sceptical of these unregulated VD clinics.

I think that the tendency is treat you with a combination of powerful anti-biotic(s) that will wipe out almost anything rather than test you for specific bacterial STDs. This makes sense from the clinics point of view because so many STDs can be cured with the same drugs. A combination of Zithromax and another anti-biotic should wipe out anything that isn't viral in origin (sometimes resistant strains do develop though). If you are still worried after this then it might be a good idea to get specific tests done, maybe at a hospital, although this often works out much more expensive.

Personally, I would prefer a flush through before I leave Pattaya rather than face the rubber gloves and tut tut approach that you might get here in the UK.

I got a really good service from the sexual health clinic of a big London hospital. They're the best in the world and free. I would hope all sexual health professionals use rubber gloves for our protection. I'm an expat though so I need a test in Pattaya. It's not a good idea to be taking antibiotics you don't need as it can mess up your digestive and immune system, leaving you exposed to food poisoning and other illnesses. Any clinic following standard medical procedures wouldn't be handing out antibiotics without testing first. The Pattaya clinic I went to didn't even know what chlamydia was. I think I'll go to Pattaya Memorial Hospital for some proper tests.

Yes, I can vouch for the fact that they are very thorough at the PMH. I know all about the possible side effects of ant-biotics and would only take them if I had reason to believe I may have possibly exposed myself to an STD or something else that might require them. A good Hospital check in London or Pattaya up is good but condoms are better.

Can you remember the price of an STD check up at PMR?

I always use a condom for intercourse but sometimes can't resist a BBBJ which is what I think might have got me this time (it's what gave me chlamydia last time).

I didn't go there for an STD check. I went there in 2001 because of a small lump on my leg which became infected (Dr. suspected a spider bite and indeed there were two small fang marks visible). I remember having to fill in some forms with questions including was I a tourist or ex-pat, a fair bit of waiting for a Dr. and a bill of 1500 Baht. The Dr. told me that the wound was nearly ulcerating and prescribed anti-biotics.

The hospital was very efficient, perhaps a few too many question that I couldn't see the point of and, being honest I wish I had just bought some anti-biotics myself from chemists. That is why if I were in your shoes I would treat myself with well selected anti-biotics from the chemists first and then go to the Hospital if that didn't work. I realise that uncompleted or unsuccessful treatments can cause resistant strains to develop but that is only possible if you have unprotected sex with someone in the meantime and in my experience the right drugs have always cured any problem I have had. Even if the hospital did do specific tests for various STDs they would probably prescribe anti-biotics in the meantime while they waited for the results, probably warranting another appointment at the hospital.

By your description it doesn't sound like you have anything incurable but of course it is your health so you should do what you think is correct in the circumstances.

Surely this is a no brainer for the sake of a few baht. Hospital visit needed for you my man, either PMH or BKK/Patts. Both very good and will properly treat what you've got, if anything at all. Good luck

there was a thread a couple months about how the clinics HIV test was pure shit. kind of scary when birds were getting tested so they could bang their thai sweethearts without a bag on. scary stuff. i imagine a hospital would give better results.

I believe that it would be easy for a bar girl to get a fake "negative" certificate, or that some clinics might just take the money and only hand out good news. However, I know for certain that good, western made instant test are available in Pattaya at a reasonable price. They will show you the sealed test and let you watch the whole procedure. I have done this myself, and although it is a very nerve racking few minutes while you wait for the test result I felt quite confident of the negative result. Just say to the clinic that you want to see the procedure, if they will not oblige the next clinic probably will.

Nice idea in theory but I went to BKK-PTY hospital and it was a complete joke. No privacy at all in the reception area so I asked the receptionist if there was a sexual health department. She spent the next 10 minutes talking on the telephone in Thai interspersed with the words "sexual health" about 10 times. She asked me if I wanted sexual health medicine so I said maybe but I need a test. She passed the phone to me and a nurse was on there so I repeated my request but she asked me if I needed medicine for sex. I said I needed a test and she asked whether I needed a test for sex. I gave up. Fortunately I've had the same symptoms before so I'm pretty sure it's chlamydia so I bought antibiotics for that.

  • 5 months later...

if you get the test done today it just tells you that you are clean one month ago am I right? so to be totally clean you have to get STD test one month after your last sex. and that's for STD and for AIDS it's 3 months is that right?

I want to revive this thread for updates (13 years old, wow).

I have a LLT girl coming in and I want to get us both tested.

I think I saw on another thread about a place on Soi Buckhoa across from LK Metro.

Any information on that or anywhere else would be appreciated.

I am in Pratumnak so Central Pattaya, Pratumnak, South Pattaya or Jomtien works for me.

I'd go to Pattaya Memorial if you're not uncomfortable in a hospital setting. That clinic on Buakow doesn't seem the most sterile to me and I think they always try and charge me hospital prices anyway. Pattaya Memorial is a nice private hospital and not sure how it is now with COVID but usually you can get anything done fairly quickly.

I have to agree a hospital setting is the best idea

I wouldn't bother with Memorial!

I went there 2 weeks ago and there was a nurse at the door basically turning everyone away unless you told her what you wanted or had an appointment...the only doctor you could see was a walk in service the following day (1 appointment time only!)

Fuck that.

I went to my normal place Life Care on 3rd Road near the corner of Soi Theppaya and also heard good things about CCS which my mate used with his gf a couple of months back...

The Government clinic behind the fish market up in Naklua would be where I'd go. Was 700 baht for checkup several years ago. Bolt  shouldn't be that costly and also the baht bus goes there.

Another note I have also states "there's a third lab (ASIA INTER CLINIC) that is close to the Lengkee / 3rd road junction and often used by Thai girls and it's apparently only 500", Note is from several years a go.

I've always used Pattaya International Hospital up on Soi 4 near 2nd Rd whenever I needed to visit a hospital in Pattaya.

Just some follow up.

I was deciding between a few options including a few mentioned here.

I decided to follow your advice.

Mainly because I already have an account here and they have always treated me well.

I won't ever go back here for an STD test and I truly cannot recommend them.

I arrive with my LLT at 9:10 in the morning but did not leave for over 4 hours and left around 1:20 pm. WTF!?!

We check in without any issues.

They told us we must see the doctor before and after.

So we then wait another 45 minutes while they get our papers in order and do the song and dance (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, weight, and height).

OK, doctor was helpful and gave us options of what tests.

I decided we are here let's get them all done.

Another 30 minutes waiting for who knows what.

Nurse calls us up for signatures and to view a price chart.

The price was supposed to be 2200 baht each but due to all the add ons it was now 9600 with a 200 baht non optional doctor visit fee.

We chose to go back strike some of the testing and the final bill was 5600 baht for two.

We got escorted up the the X-Ray section by one of the nurse assistant.

I remember wondering that is a strange place for blood test.

The X-Ray people had to remind the NA she was in the wrong place. Duh!

We finally get to the Lab and the nurse or lab specialist inserted the needle into my LLT and there was nothing coming out.

She obviously missed the target and had to start over.

Not good.

My turn and everything seemed fine until while waiting in the lobby I noticed a little pain down my left arm.

I pull up the band aide and notice I have a med size bump full of blood (see the photo).

Apparently they did not put enough pressure on my arm when removing the needle.

After that it took another 2 hours waiting.  We would have left and returned but the told us it would only be 45 minutes.

Everything was negative, as expected.

What a shit show. Should have listened to my recommendation and gone to Pattaya Memorial instead. Never had anything close to that many fuck-ups like that. Or any at all really that I can remember.

Sorry to hear about all the problems. I didn't have any problems when I went there with my LLT gal and the costs seemed reasonable but that was 17 years ago.
