Hotel rates much cheaper if booked from LOS ?

During some research into hotel prices in Krabi, I discovered that Agoda were quoting much lower prices if you're searching from Thailand, compared to a search from in the UK. I know this because I asked my TGF to have a look at some hotels I was looking at on the Agoda site. (to see if she liked them, look at photos, etc). Anyway I was stunned when she told me the price she was seeing on the website - I was looking at a room for around 3000 baht, but she was being quoted 1000. I tried this for other hotels just to check it wasn't a glitch. No, same thing happened. High prices for me, low prices for her.

 

Of course I then tried to do a search using the Thai version (Agoda.co.th, instead of Agoda.com) to see if I could get the same cheap rate, but surprise surprise - NO ROOMS AVAILABLE. They obviously know I'm searching from outside LOS, so I'm not getting the Thai price.

 

I know when in LOS, Thais get many things cheaper than farangs, but I didn't think it applied to hotel bookings online. I've never read anything about this before on here or anywhere else. Anyone else seen this?

Well glitch or whatever it is, I'll be taking advantage of it.

 

She can do the booking for me and I'll save myself a fortune
