I normally use IE8 with Windows XP but Hotmail and Pattaya Addicts are dead slow so I have to use FF.

I have bookmarked Addicts, Hotmail and a few others. However a 'virus' called Snap do. from time to time takes over FF and the toolbar.

I removed it from Programs and in trying to remove it from the tool bar i seem to have lost the FF toolbar and cannot see Bookmarks to open the list..

I did  system restore but no better. I deleted FF and reinstalled it but still no toolbar. I bookmarked Addicts and Hotmail (using the 'star') but dont have Bookmarks to open them Can open them by puting in the address. Can also open them by going to 'star' dropdown menu.at rh top. 'View bookmarks Toolbar ' is checked.

Also don't have 'Tools' which i use to remove Snap do.

This is what i have now. Iobit is a malaware tool. I never use yahoo.

Can anyone tell me how to get the FF toolbar back?

I'm thinking you are having trouble with snap.do and the best thing I can tell you is to go to uninstall programs but from the sounds of it you have already tried that so you will then need to try to remove it from your search engines

for ie:

go to tools>manage addons

from the list of search providers remove snap.on It will probably be in the toolbars and extension tab as well so check to see if it needs to be removed from there too.

you will also need to remove snap.on from your homepage options in ie (internet options>general in the tools tab as well).

for FF
go to the Firefox button and select Add-ons

then click Extensions tab and remove everything that says Snap.do
just to check that it worked go to the Firefox button and then go to general and in the Home Page window then enter your preferred home page (PA) into the Home Page.

If all this fails it is also a good check your shortcuts. Go to your ie/FF shortcut and right click then look in properties to make sure it doesn't say snap.on. If it does then just change it to suit your search engine. To do this put C:\Program files (x86)\Motzilla Firefox\firefox.exe (or whatever your path is to the firefox executable file) into shortcut>Target window then hit OK.

This problem has turned up a few times with other browser hijackers, I have actually had it happen to me before. Sadly it's not always from porn. A lot of search engines will import data from already installed search engines so they will probably import the problem unless you fix it.

I will have a better look at this when the sun comes up but let me know if this worked.

I think you have a Virus and FF is not Web Browser

Switch off Web then computer restart hitting F8 Start Safe Mode remove all the Shit from uninstall you think causing issues then run Virus checkers you have using scan when do do it all again and then still in safe use search for any part of the name on this snap on shit.

Restart normal NO web still re run scan check search again turn on Web and reload FF.

Make sure virus software up to date

Hope it helps

You need to uninstall the toolbar malware/virus programs first, then run a registry cleaner program to reset the registry entries that govern browser state. What is happening is that you uninstalled FF in an attempt to start fresh, but not getting rid of the malware or the registry strings that say that the malware and re-attach itself to new installations of FF or other browsers.

Go into your control panel and manually remove programs that say "toolbar" or have the names of the malware that pops up.  Next, download either CCleaner or Glary Utilities (both are free) and run the registry cleaner (backup first).  Then follow Thizar's instructions on showing the regular FF toolbar.

IE8 has horrible AJAX performance, which is most likely the speed issue you are talking about with Hotmail and this forum (just a guess).  IE9 is supposed to be a lot better in that end, but if this were me, I'd just install Chrome after cleaning out the system.

Thanks for all the replies.

Thizar:  I went to IE :Tools :Manage Add ons and Disabled the 3  Snap Do items (Under ReSoft Ltd) which were Enabled . I have Disabled them in the past.

I opened FF  (Double click or right click) and end up with the toolbar in my photo. Where do I get Add-ons?

Snap Do sometimes takes over my home page (on IE and FF) but i remove it and put back default. IE has a box to 'check' Do not allow another to take over the  home page but Snapdo sometimes gets past.

Anyway i think i will get a friend to do what is required. From Google it appears that many people have a problem with Snapdo.

it sounds like you need to a real cleaning of your system.  I'm not sure what snapdo is, but sounds like a very bad malware app/toolbar that some other apps sneaks in during installation.

for a reference, in FF, I only have 1 plugin running (shockwave flash) and 2 add-ons (adblock plus 2.3.2 and downloadhelper4.9.21).  Any other plugin is disabled or removed.

After removing snapdo, you should download malwarebytes and run it to scan your computer.  Also, run a virus scanner like avast or avira or avg, those are the free ones.  I usually download, install, run and then uninstall after the run for the virus scanners.

BB294 - of the many toolbars available, which do you consider to be the "FF toolbar"?

I ask because it looks like you already have the FF Bookmarks toolbar visible (it's the one showing Most Visited, Getting Started, etc.)

If you're looking to add PA, Hotmail, etc. to that, press Ctrl-Shift-B to organize your bookmarks. Try dragging items from the "Recently Bookmarked" folder to the "Bookmarks Toolbar" folder and you should be sorted.

If it's the FF Menu toolbar you need, click on the orange Firefox button, navigate to "Options", and click "Menu Bar"

I may have oversimplified your question, so please let me know if this doesn't solve your problem.

OP: Here is a more streamlined version of what I originally wrote.  It consolidates a few steps:

Uninstall:

  1. Navigate to Star/Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs
  2. Find the line item "Snap.do". Click on it.
  3. When prompted, selected "Remove"
  4. Wait for it to finish, then it is removed.

Reset Browser (This is a soft reset. backup bookmarks just in case):

  1. FF - Press orange FF button on top left.
  2. Select "Help", then "Troubleshooting Information"
  3. Press the "Reset Firefox" button.
  4. This will bring you back to a fresh install state, restoring search engine and factory home page.

In Explorer, this same reset can be done by pressing the "gear" icon, selecting "Internet Options", going to the "Advanced" tab, and pressing the "Reset" button on the bottom.

This is not as thorough as manually changing everything back and getting a registry cleaner, but it is much easier to do.

Hi Evil,

many thanks for that.

I had already removed SnapDo which had reinstalled again as a Program, but instead of using Control Panel I used IObit Uninstaller which removes the program and also then cleans up the Registry.  I checked with 'regedit' and no sign of Snap.do  in the registry.

I used your instructions to Reset Browser and now is back to what it should be, including all the items i had bookmarked before.

Thanks again.

I have also used some Malaware removal programs.

And thanks again to all who replied.
