The Minister of Tourism and Sports recently visited Pattaya on a mission to help reduce naval accidents in Pattaya.

PATTAYA – August 29, 2013 [PDN]; Mr. Somsak Phureesak, the Minister of Tourism and Sports had visited the Pattaya Police station in order to listen to summaries and presentations by various police officers. He came to Pattaya after he heard about the 29 Chinese tourists that were involved in a speed boat accident, from which 2 died from the accident.

The 23 year-old who had controlled or driven the speed boat has been arrested for careless driving. The injured will receive 300,000 THB for treatment while the families of the people that died will receive 1 million THB.

Mr. Somsak said this was the second horrifying injured following the first one where a Korean tourist’s leg was ripped off. He stressed that better security measures will be implemented in the naval travel in order to prevent such accident from happening again. A GPS tracking system might be an obligatory requirement for each boat.

An overhaul of security measures will be implemented by 2014 where over 190 Million THB will be invested in vital security features.

200 m from the Bali Hai pier, a double engine size speedboat named Choksuwanee 17, collided with an anchor rope of another boat causing the speedboat to turnover causing severe injuries and deaths among Chinese tourists.
