Single name for Facebook (Hide last name)

Not sure if this has been posted before but I thought I'd share how I got rid of my last name in Facebook.

In Indonesia there is a lot of people with only one name so Facebook has allowed Indonesians to have an account with a single name. Here is how I fooled Facebook into thinking that I'm Indonesian then changed my FB account to only have one name.

Firstly this was done with Firefox. If you don't have it you can download it from here http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/new/

Once Firefox is up and running I went to Options -> Advanced -> Network

In the Connection box I went to Settings

Within the Connections Settings panel I clicked the Manual Proxy Configuration

I then added the IP 222.124.178.98 and the port 3128. I made sure the Use this proxy server for all protocols was ticked. This is an Indonesian proxy server IP and more can be found at http://www.proxynova.com/proxy-server-list/country-id/

In the No Proxy for I made sure it had localhost, 127.0.0.1

Then I hit OK

This set Firefox to use an Indonesian IP. I found that from this point the browser ran a bit slower.

Now I set Facebook to think I was Indonesian

I then logged into Facebook and in in account settings I changed the language to Bahasa Indonesia

I then went to Pengaturan Akun (account settings in Indonesian) then nama (name in Indonesian) and was then able to delete my last name and still save it. By the way, Sunting is Indonesian for Edit and Simpan Perubahan is Indonesian for Save.

I then went back to account settings and switched the language back to English

Lastly I went to Options -> Advanced -> Network in Firefox

In the Connection box I went to Settings and clicked No Proxy and then OK

Let me know if anyone else has had success in doing this.

This worked for me and on a side note, the changing of the IP might work for seeing porn while in LOS. I would be interested to hear from some people on the ground if it does work with porn sites in Thailand.

The other way is to just make up a last name like Smith and forget all this fuss.

The best way is to have an account where neither your first or last name is real which is what I do.

Yeah that's what I have. I just made my last name "Thailand" but was bored one day and decided to figure out how to remove it.

I've been asked on FB a couple times how I did it, so I thought that a few people on PA might want to do it. It's more just for fun and to look a little different.

Good tips. Going to try this tomorrow.

As a side note I have a tiger scratch symbol as part of my name (at the end)

I read a long time back that FB were going to ban odd symbols in names but so far had it for years with no probs. Maybe only problems for new accounts.

You might want to be careful when you try this because when you save it, it might not let you save the tiger scratch. Maybe do a bit of research before you try it to find out if you can re-save an odd symbol.
