PATTAYA – August 26, 2013 [PDN]; Officials of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP) together with Na Jomtien Police officers raided an elephant camp after it was known that the illegally kept the elephants at the camp with fake documents.

The Deputy Director of the DNP revealed that a search arrant was issued as soon as it proved that a 47 year-old elephant’s document was falsified, which is against the law. It was also reported that the elephant was taken out to carry tourists who paid money to go on the back of the elephant, which is also against the law.

The DNP strongly believe that the falsified documents indicate that the elephant was obtained illegally, which if found guilty, the offender would have to spend years in prison.

The 33 year-old wife of the owner of the elephant had initially taken full responsibility, as for the elephant, DNP officials have now taken it to a safe place where it will be taken care of by specialists.
