The awkward sound that is made each time the ATM machine pops out a slip, have you ever felt that the slip is meaningless and threw it in the garbage? If you are one of those then you’ve made a mistake! This is because these slips are a password to easy theft that could leave your account with no money.

The police were able to catch a high-tech gang that stole information from these slips and used the Internet to withdraw money from people’s account. These gangs were able to withdraw up to 800,000 baht from the ATM within just four times.

On August 20 2013, police in the province of west of Bangkok announced the arrest of Mr. T. Sira Voravith, a 32 year old for forging legal documents and for using these fake document along with Mr. Thanadon Kajornchai 41 years old, for forging legal documents, for using fake document and also money fraudulent by proving to be someone else. The two arrests confessed their fraudulent by claiming that they used the slip as a way to get into people’s account. The also confessed that they have hacked four accounts are ready in which the first time they had withdrawn 180,000 baht the second 160,000 baht the third time in 42,000 baht and the fourth time 400,000 baht.

By using the following process:

1. The criminal will be walking around the ATM area after the person has used the service.

2. The criminal will pick up slips from the garbage or nearby the ATM machine then choose the slip that has the highest amount and keep that slip so that they could use the account number on it.

3. The account number will be used to identify the name of the cardholder

4. after receiving the name, they will then identify the ID card number, date of birth and house registry

5. this information is then used to forge a card

6. after that go to the bank, use that fake card to open a new account by enabling the access of the online account

7. the criminal then uses a fake account to merge with the real account

8. lastly, they take and use the ATM card to transfer all the money

Police reported that this is the most recent case and that these high-tech criminals have used very mystifying methods. Therefore, this is a warning to all of you out there too kindly take that slip tear it or either throw it somewhere far away from the ATM machine for safety reasons.

Except that

A. ATM slips don't have a/c nos on them,

and

B. you have to have a contact in the bank to tie the a/c no to a name
