Fresh And Safe ‘Oyster’ Approved By Rayong’s Mayor

Mr. Wichit Chatapaisit, Governer of Rayong along with his team made a visit to the fresh seafood market in Klaeng Rayong near the Suan Som Bay. Their visit was to explore and questioned the market vendors and fishermen about the impact of the oil spill on their business.

RAYONG – August 21,2013 [PDN]; Governer of Rayong stated that Rayong has been suffering since ending July due to the oil spills on the beaches in Rayong. This has really affected small fishing boats that set out each day to catch sea food to sell. This issue has also affected locals and tourists, by being hesitant in buying seafood because of fear and concern of contaminated water. However, this a misconception stated the Marine Department that are responsible for examining his matter. They state that no oil or mercury spills has affected the sea animals after a thorough examination. Therefore, the Governor encourages buying seafood from these local vendors with confidence. He also opened the oyster to show the media that seafood here is fresh and safe to consume.

The Governor of Rayong has also tried to boost local vendors sales by asking PTT employees to purchase their seafood’s from the Bang Phe vendors. The beach vendors have been out of business and have lost confidence in their business for some time. Therefore, to boost confidence back for vendors, local and tourist an event will be held in Rayong called ‘Rayong Smiling’. This event will be arranged on the beach road and will run for 6 months during this low season, every alternate week. The event will be filled with music, low cost shopping, buy 1 get one free offers, fee seafood and lots more. This event will be assisted by PTT, whose main objective is to attract tourists and locals to this event, mainly to boost their confidence and trust back to Rayong. The event is planned to start on 31st August from 2.00 pm onwards.

On the same day a meeting at the Municipal Office in Rayong in which local vendor, speedboat owners, local and hotel entrepreneurs from Laem Mae Phim beach of about 250 people attended. They made a statement that the believe that PTT, and PTT Global Chemical Public should lendd a helping hand after the news of oil spills and contaminated water which has resulted in no tourist in the Laem Mae Phim beach.

Mayor Soonthornphu claim that from Chak Phong beachup until Laem Mae Phim beach has been affected by the oil stains since August 2.

Local authorities have swept and cleaned so that the local vendors are not worried, the beaches are now clean and safe. As for the black sand stain issue the Mayor claims that Thailand is not a volcanic area and that there are no black sand stain present. On 22 August at 9.00 am the Mayor will visit the Klaeng police station to report about the false environment damage issue.
