Boosting Tourism At Koh Samet

Koh Samet After being severely affected by the contaminated seawater resulting in reduced to tourist visit, urgency measures are being taken by responsible party to help bring back the island to life.

RAYONG – August 18, 2013 [PDN]; Tourism and Sports Minister Mr.Somsak Pureesrisak Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Of Tourism and Sports Dr. Suwat Sidthilaw, held a press conference at Koh Samet, Rayong. The conference was held to discuss and bring confidence back to businesses in Koh Samet area after receiving the news about the contaminated seawater at Phrao Beach and Luk Yon Beach. This news has reported a negative feedback on the tourism industry for this area.

Mr. Somsak Pureesrisak claims that there are planning trade shows in other countries as a PR strategy to help gain back the confidence of tourists and attract them back to Koh Samet. Fortunately, this news happened during the low season however, urgent measures needs to be taken during the high season so that tourists could visit Koh Samet stress free about the oil and Mercury spills they have now been taken care of. PTT will help assist in the trade shore.

Mrs Jiraphat Sukkrachai, a 38-year-old bungalow owner located at Putra Beach reported that the Putra Beach was also affected indirectly because it is close to Prao beach meaning that the oil and mercury spills had also affected the seafood, making tourists hesitant to having the seafood in that area. She believes that the concerned parties should quickly take actions and bring back confidence so that tourists will not find an alternative place to spend their vacation.

Mr Ekrat Sonthon and owner of a cocktail bar at Thapthim Bay, claims that PTT setting up an oil storage tank to be disposed at the shore has also resulted in a negative impact on the Thapthim Bay. Due to the oil and Mercury spills the tourist tourism rate has reduced up to 80%. Even after clearance of all the contaminated spills this weekend at the Thapthim Bay, hardly any tourist could be found.
