It's caught on like the pox with Thais I've noticed, I see people smoking shisha all over the place, no trouble at all finding a place to enjoy a pipe or two. AFAIK they all serve booze as well.

A lot of beer bars allow it.  Just ask a BG and soon you're sheesha will show up on a moped

Forgive my newbieness, but what is the attraction of this stuff ? 

It's something different to do, that's all.  The Thai girls love it for some reason, particularly when the farang is paying

 

I've never smoked cigs, only cigars, but I got into it last trip and noticed how much the girls seem to like it.

 

Give it a try, you might even enjoy it.
