How long does a Thai sim card remain active?

Hi, I got a thai number last trip January 2013 and I have had thai phone numbers before but always lost the phone. This trip I managed not to lose my phone and I still have the sim card (DTAC). I was wondering will it still be alive in December 2013 or will I have to get a new number. I know here in Aust if you don't put credit on the phone it gets deactivated, is DTAC the same?

Is there a reason you want the same number, if not a new SIM card is cheap.

My DTAC has been inactive for 12 months a couple of times. I just go to the DTAC counter on arrival and they re-activate it when I put some credit onto it.

Hmm, I use DTAC too and get back to LOS every 6 months.

My sim card is always expired or empty when I get back and I end up having to buy a new one at kiosk at Shewannaboom.

They always tell me it is finished and must buy new card.

Maybe I will see if I can reactivate it with credit next trip.

One of the lovely ladies at the AIS stand in BKK told me if no credit is applied for 3 months they cease

Whether the same SIM / number can be resurrected I'm not sure..

That's interesting. I've never had an issue. When I give them the sim maybe they swap it over for a new one and just transfer the number. Dunno, I've never taken much notice when at the counter. But in any case I've had the same number for about 7 years.
