Akvavit (Jomtien beach): weekend lunch buffet review (with photos)

I tried out the lunch buffet at Akvavit today. It's 295 THB including taxes and available on Saturdays and Sundays between 12:00 and 16:00. With a diet coke the total came to 350 THB.

The buffet is located in the air-conditioned innermost space of the restaurant.

Elsewhere on the web I had seen someone complaining that the warm food was not kept warm enough. This was not the case today - the food was placed in (normally closed) metal containers with some heavy duty heat candles beneath which managed to keep the food at a good temperature.

Here is what was on offer today:

Cold cuts:

Seafood salad:

"Skagen" (Swedish-style egg-halves with prawns, mayo, dill, some fish roe-like thing)

The first plate of food I grabbed was naturally some meatballs :)

(Sorry for the quality of some of those photos.)

So how did it all taste?

The "pepper steak" (somewhat misnamed) was really great. Tasty and tender beef with a nice sort of port steak like sauce.

The mash and the "Pytt Bellman" were also quite good.

The meatballs along with their sauce were a bit of a disappointment, particular since this is a Swedish-run place.

The rest (the cold stuff, the rice, the curry etc) sort of tasted like you would expect them to. :)

Thanks for a good review, but for around 50฿ more I think ill stick with the Hilton lunch time buffet, so much more choice....
