man keyow

While drunk, I made the mistake of calling one of my friends "pee see-ow" instead of "pee saew" they always have a giggle about it when I see them.

Lol easy enough to do even sober.

One time when i was sitting in a cafe and i wanted some paper to write on, i asked the waitress in a loud voice using Thai, did she have paper (kradard), i realised i had made a stuff up when other diners started laughing and the waitress face turned red and she said no she didn't, what i actually had asked her was did she have a cock (kradaw)...... :Booboo:

yes i find the NG sound hard to pronounce in a word like ngou (snake) it always sounds like mouse when i say it ( noo)......

I gave up trying to make this sound.

I gave up trying to make this sound.

Think of the word singer as si-nger instead of sing-er.

With that in mind, say singer 10 times in a row, then leave out the 'si' part and just say 'nger' and try and say that 10 times in a row.

If you can do that then no Thai will mistake your snake for a mouse (ngoo vs. noo) :D

That's a good tip.

I'm able to make the sound, it just feels so uncomfortable. 555

  • 1 year later...

One of the girls I've known for a long time still has a habit of speaking Thai to me even though she knows I suck at it. And then repeating it louder and slower when I don't understand (which of course doesn't help at all).

So one time, fairly recently, she was saying "man keeow" a lot. I had no idea what that means, and told her so. She kept repeating it, and every time I would repeat that I still don't know what it means. In the end, she bit me and gave me a huge hickey (she was more drunk than normal too). This is where I started to suspect the literal meaning, but it took quite a bit of googling to be sure.

The hickey, BTW, is still barely visible, even though this was more than two weeks ago

yes it means cute...it might also be used to describe a baby or pet.

This version of me will not stay the same, tomorrow I will be different.

I remember one time years ago when I had girl back to my hotel overnight - she said that a lot to me during the night - glad to hear it was a good thing she was saying!

yeah...she was not calling you a monkey after all. I think this phrase often comes out as a genuine sign of affection. sexy man = sexy wallet; jai dee =generous or LDOP
