Best Seafood - Your Thoughts Please.

Recommended Posts

I was having a look for any “Best Seafood Restaurant” type thread  or comments or recommendations.

I have eaten at number of seafood restaurants in and around Pattaya and Jomtein,  though in no way would I claim to be familiar with any of them as I’m  not in town often enough and not at all in the last 12 months.

I recently read about Longbridge Restaurant and Moom Aroi, also in Naklua.  Does any BM have any recent, first hand experience of Moom Aroi, Rim Talay etc, or similar in Nakula, Pattaya or Jomtein?  I don’t want to go out any further.

What is the best place on Walking Street?  Surely a few must be good?

Often the WS places are slated for being poor, fish not fresh, expensive and touristy.  I feel that’s probably justified, but to be expected,  though not excusable, however the setting and the atmosphere, I always found very pleasant.  The worst I experienced was the Lobster Pot, and the best was Nang Nual.  I had some great nights in Nang Nual and loved the food.  Would I get much better quality in Jomtein or Naklua?  I know it may be cheaper, better value etc, but is it worth the effort to save a few Baht or is the food really that good ?  I ate at a place on South Jomtein Beach Rd, with tables along the other side of the road, don’t remember name, but it was just ok, though I’m sure cheaper.   It was a night, mid-week and it was pretty quiet with zero atmosphere.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Walking Street sea food is not good and overpriced. Take a car or a motorbike taxi and go to the end of beach road in Jomtien. THe food is much better, view is nice, overall very quite and laid back place and you will pay half of the WS price. Bang Saray is another option, but it is even further then jomtien.

+1

...But...sometimes not easy for visitors without transport...and not comfortable with moto cy taxis

Yes...agree...those of us who live here benefit....but same same any major City in the World

...local knowledge is...GOLD

Maybe Mum Aroi...(Sp??) on third Road is a better option....can get there by Songtaew without too much hassle

For sure a better deal than WS

IMHO

Agreed.  Avoid WS for seafood.  I made the mistake of going into King Seafood out of convenience.  Actually, the seating on the water overlooking the rest of the boardwalk and bay is pretty cool.  However, the food was par to sub par and just as expensive as home.  ordered my first rock lobster.  Maybe its because I'm from the Northeast USA and get spoiled with Maine lobster, but I thought the Patts variety was awful.  Bland, rubbery, and just about cold by the time it was served.  They also put something on it that resembled cheese whiz.  The overall experience was worth it though, watching two  Thai ladies trying to eat lobster for the first time.  One of them picked it up like she was holding a hoagie and asked "how to eat", as if she was going to take a bite right through the shell.

On WS, SeaZone is okay. Best recommendation is Jae Juk, one location on Pattaya Nua and a really nice location on the beach in Naklua.

Hi, I agree.  I always enjoyed atmosphere in the WS places I visited overlooking the sea, but as you say the food was not great and pricey. I don't wish to pay to try them all!   I do not like the "Rock Lobster" terrible taste, even the "spiny" or "painted"  lobster on sale are poor.  You gotta remmember, they are not lobsters, they are a different animal, some type of cray fish.  The cold water North Atlantic lobster from Maine or around the UK & Ireland are true lobster.  Something to do with being much slower growing due to the colder water, and they have big "nippers" as kids would say!

Gonna give Mom Aroi in Naklua ago next month.

My favourites are baby clams, good soft shell crabs and the dry "curry powder" curry nearly always crab, sometimes prawn. A real classic Thai dish and so, so good.
