The answer to your question is yes, Just a word of caution. Do you know the "history" of the phone you are being offered? If it was stolen, 1. you will not be able to connect it to iTunes or the App store. 2. it is possible to shut them down remotely 3. If find my iPhone is set up you may have the original owner knocking at your door lol.

He who dies with the best stories wins!

Unlock and block are two very different things.

A blocked phone is one that has been stolen and reported. The provider or insurance company that pays out then puts the phones imei number on a blocked list and it can't be used even if the phone is unlocked. However most phones that are blocked in the UK will still work on Asian networks as the IMEI block is not registered there.

Unlocking a phone is just making it sim free so that you can put any SIM card in it from any network provider.

In an ideal situation the phone you are buying is already unlocked (network free) and would work straight away with a Thai SIM card.

A 'friend' of mine had his iPhone 4 unlocked by his network before it was stolen and after the insurance paid out he found it again but it was then IMEI blocked. I took it over to Pattaya and it worked fine there. But beware it will of course not work when you return to the UK due to the IMEI problem.
