Check Out: Tuesday 30^th October 2012

Total Stay: 3 Nights

 

Room: 4 (2 Flights of stairs room faces adjacent building)

 

Booking: Walk in booking, no website

 

 

 

Features:

Air conditioner( struggles), Wall Fan, Wi-Fi (FREE, excellent speed, reliable), Old TV no remote control (cable channels Fox News, BBC News, Aust TV, Sport, Aljazeera etc), BIG!! Fridge, Bar with Pool Table downstairs but ‘beautiful girls’ I don’t think so. Ensuite bathroom, 24hr Family Mart 1min walk, power stayed on when not in room, Lenkee Laundry a few doors down towards Soi Buakhao, Short walk to LK Metro, Soi Diana Beer Bars

 

No lift, no soap, no in room safe (safety box at front bar), BG ID check but, a Standard Room so no extras like jug, microwave or toaster, tea / coffee, no DVD player, you need to leave ‘Clean Room’ card out for room service, no remote for TV, hallway noise, have to turn water on, blanket was a giant towel, fan rattled on high speed, door lock PLUS padlock on door, turn water to room on at front door.

 

Details:

This is the first time I have stayed in a low budget accommodation but you never know if you never try it. Not a large room but comfortable. A little run down but acceptable. On Check In the muzzled dog didn’t seem to take a shine to me and gave me a bit of a serve. Three cats were in residence downstairs. I am not really a cat person but they were friendly and nice to play with.

 

The blanket for the bed was what seemed to be an oversized Towel that only covered 3/4 ‘s of double bed. Would be a hassle if you had a BG LT I could see ‘Doona Wars’ all night.

 

Noise between the rooms may be a problem. Let’s face it who wants to hear an old bald Falang going ‘at it’ in the next room and to anyone who may have been in adjacent rooms I sincerely apologise. Couldn’t sleep for a few hours one night when some children moved in next door at 1am and were screaming loudly. One thing I did like was the wall to wall mirrors including the ceiling. Like being in your own porno movie and I must admit I look ok when I’m ‘on the job’. Sorry maybe a little too much information there.

 

While being shown my room the woman made sure I was aware she was ‘available’ which was nice but 40+ isn’t quite my ‘target species’. There is ID hand in for BG’s coming to room but felt it was all about being nosey than any real security reason. Some comments weren’t all that appreciated. If taking girl LT get ID photo copied as no staff in morning to give ID back.

 

Typical Thai lack of service, girls seemed more interested in getting drunk all night and clowning about. BG’s were definitely past their ‘use by’ date. One thought it hilarious on a number of occasions telling me ‘BF for cat 300 baht’ even one night when I had the cutest young BG with me. She didn’t think it was funny either. Best keep to yourself at Thai run low budget Guest Houses I think.

 

Wrap Up:

Room was ok for the price, location is good in the heart of Soi Lenkee, Thai staff were terrible. It was like the Guest House was their own little soap opera but if you keep to yourself you should be ok. Would I stray there again? No. It was interesting but staring in some impolite Thai women’s little Soap Opera isn’t really my thing. Shame really because with a little bit of focus it could be a really profitable little set up. I am looking for somewhere for next week and really like the Soi Lenkee area.

When I saw the title I seriously thought that if it was a good review I would check it out.

 

I love the idea of the wall to wall to ceiling mirrors but based on the review perhaps other places may be more suitable.

Just across the road there is a few places you can get for around 500 baht. I stayed in a place called the Rock House. Met all my expectations.

Was going to book in there but the website threw me. VERY confusing. Wondered whether they wanted to sell me a room or a dog?

Yes great location on Soi Lenkee.

 

Good price at 450 baht if your looking to save on accommodation. If you keep well away from staff no problem staying there.

Now I know what,s inside so if at a loose end I can just walk in the reviewed guest house

And pretty much know what to expect

A lot of the pics on the acc websites are sometimes 5/10 years out of date lol

drank there a few times would`ent think of staying there

Didn't want to get too harsh on them but man they drank all night and hungover in the morning and they were a little agro nursing their headaches lol.

 

I did spot that younger one but thought she was the Mamasan / Owner / Manager so left it at that. She would definitely be worth a go if she was available.

 

I did also notice they were trying to chat up every guy that walked into China Garden hotel.

Not really my thing either but one day I hope to find a little gem Guest House at 450 baht a night.

 

Onyx is sad though with just a little effort and not so much drinking it could be a great little place. Waste really.
