"Are you coming to Lek's wedding? Anne"

Difficult to be sure 100%, the use of ไอ้เล็ก (ai lek) is slightly puzzling. Ai is normally uses in front of a male's name, but Lek is usually female. It could mean "Lek's brother"

Maybe "Are you coming to Lek's brother's wedding?. Anne"

You can't totally trust what you read here either :)

Look at the 3 posts above yours -

Slick reads it as a text sent to Lek by Anne

My post has it as sent to an unknown person by Anne

Gobby has it as a text sent to Anne by an unknown person

Yeah I am seeing that, it looks like a tough language to master...

The basic language is not too difficult for everyday conversations when shopping or eating out.

The main problem is that whoever invented the Thai language, for some obscure reason, gave many meanings for the same word and many different words with the same meanings. Hope that makes sense.

The problem with Google translate is that it will translate using one meaning for a particular word and most times it is the wrong meaning.!

I have actually read instructions before where they have written 3 words one after the other with the same common meaning in order to be clear.

I thought it says

"I'm going to Lek, baus, Ai and Ann wedding/ som chai "

I'm pretty sure it reads this way

For clarification, it was a male asking Ann (female) something...

If that is the case then I seriously doubt that this message was written by a Thai person.

Initially I thought that it was written by an uneducated Thai, but it could be written by a foreigner with poor Thai language skills re sentence construction.

If a question is being addressed to Anne, Anne or Khun would be the first word in the sentence. Often personal pronouns and names are omitted, but it would never be placed at the end of the sentence.

From my Thai GF and my own meager knowledge, but first the literal translation.

มา - maa or "come"

งานแต่ง - ngan dteang or "wedding"

ไอ้เล็ก - ai Lek (Lek can be a man's name, but more likely a girls name and a close friend. Ai is not necessarily derogatory if it is a close friend)

ป่าว - bplao or "?" (makes it a question)

แอ๋น - Ann (The person being asked)

Come wedding Lek, Ann?

Ann is being asked if she will come to Lek's wedding.

I thought it was obvious from all the translations that a third person was asking, however I agree with your wife given where the space is placed. I should not have put in the "will" in my stupid attempt at paraphrasing.

Thanks guys its interesting how this simple sentence has been read & translated differently...

On a side note, only real facts I have is a Thai man asked the question of a girl named Ann.
