Ginjai Parade marked the start of this 10 day Vegetarian Festival.

 

 

The Chinese Vegetarian Festival known as Ginjai has begun and for the next 10 days, followers will abstain from eating meat which normally leads to an increase in vegetable prices in local markets. To celebrate the start of the festival a Ginjai Parade took place beginning at the Bali Hai Port, on Wednesday Morning. We joined the parade as it made its way from Walking Street up to Pattaya Second Road towards the Sawang Boriboon Headquarters in Banglamung. Followers, dressed in white were blessed by a Chinese Dragon and along the route offerings of Fruit were made. Two men who are believed to be possessed by a Chinese Spirit blessed followers with a special wooden stick which is supposed to give those who come into contact with it, good luck for the forthcoming year.
