I just bought a new camera--might sell you my old point and shoot. Buying second hand in Thailand from shops is very difficult. They often ask for almost new prices. Look at some of the pawn shops to see what I mean.

Point and shoots are fairly cheap new why go for second hand. You can buy a nice one for @ 5,000 baht or less.

Cameras are not cheap here so 2nd hand values are high too.

You CAN get cheap cameras but more expensive than EU/USA/Japan etc for equivalent models

Better to pick one up at home if you are on a visit.

+1. My new camera was brought over from the states--saved about 15%.

Point and shoot cameras are a good deal in my country now. 16MP for $99, you can't beat that deal.

Megapixels are just a part of the story.

You will nearly always going to get a better price on ebay than in a second hand camera shop.

But first decide what features you want like zoom, memory card type, image stabilisation etc as this will help you decide on which camera.

As expatdude says above more megapixels are not always better. What is important is the type and size of the sensor in combination with the number of pixels. For a given number of pixels you will get better pictures especially in low light conditions with larger sensors as each pixel will be bigger and able to collect light from a larger area.

A good lens with a low F-number in combination with the right sensor and good in-camera software makes all the difference .

A lot of pixels is mainly marketing and are only important if you wanna make very large prints (or crops) but don't have any

influence on picture quality .

As gogo dog already pointed out (thanks for that) i have two top of the range point and shoot cameras for sale for a good price .
