NARATHIWAT, July 24 – Two army rangers were wounded in a bombing in the southern province of Narathiwat Tuesday afternoon.

The men were targeted by unseen assailants who exploded a five-kilogramme bomb on a road in Rangae district.

Two Army rangers, Areeya Yingprasert and Chanan Kraipet, were wounded while they and another six soldiers were patrolling the route in a village.

The underground bomb was placed in an iron box and detonated by a mobile phone signal.

The incident occurred as army chief Gen Prayuth Chan-ocha travelled to Tuesday morning to boost the morale of local officials there following last week’s car bombing.

Last Friday a car bomb explosion injured eight people and set ablaze a commercial building in Narathiwat. (MCOT online news)
