Evidence of car bombers found in Narathiwat's Sungai Kolok district

NARATHIWAT, July 21 - Evidence linked to car bombers in this southern province's Su-ngai Kolok district were found, according to governor Apinun Suethanuwong.

He said an investigation found the bombers had first planned to target a bank, but security guards would not let them park their bomb-laden car in front of the bank. A computer company then became the target.

A Friday morning car bomb injured eight people and set ablaze a commercial building where Pro Computer and OA Company was located.

The governor ordered more measures for banks' safety. From this investigation, the bombers were targeting a financial institution, which was considered to have higher importance. Police are to gather as much evidence as possible to issue arrest warrants for the suspected bombers.

Mr Apinun added that a situation assessment demonstrated that this group of presumed insurgents would provoke unrest in major communities during the peak hours of dawn, noon, and dusk, as well as periods when patrolling police and soldiers became fatigued.

As a result, female rangers were requested for reinforcement at dawn, more police officials at noon, and more soldiers at dusk, with paramilitary volunteers to be stationed from midnight until dawn the next day. (MCOT online news)
