PATTANI, July 8- Pattani police on Sunday inspected a policeman’s home in Kapho district after it was attacked with two M79 grenades Saturday’s night, while arson razed a teacher's vacant house.

Pol Lt Col Prawit Khiewsawai of Kapho police station, together with police investigators and a bomb disposal unit, on Sunday inspected the home of Pol Cpl Patonsak Yeewa in Kapho district.

The home was located in a compound of official residences for non-commissioned police officers.

The two M79 grenades landed on the roof of Pol Cpl Patonsak’s home Saturday’s night while he, his wife, and a one-year-old daughter were watching television downstairs.

The explosion destroyed a ceiling board and the roof on the second floor.

Fortunately, no one was wounded in the incident.

Meanwhile, the schoolteacher’s home in the compound of Talo Dueraman School in Kapho district was set on fire by an arsonist. The blaze completely damaged the vacant two-storey building.

According to the initial investigation, nobody lived at this home, and the attacker torched the building by pouring gasoline in the house before setting it alight.

In another incident on Sunday, a paramilitary ranger was killed and a villager was seriously injured in a shooting attack at a wedding in Narathiwat’s Rangae district.

Sgt-Maj Manase Yuso of the 46th Rangers Company, 51, was shot twice in his head and torso while attending the wedding party. The victim died immediately at the scene.

Meanwhile, Sainuding Waeha, 49, was severely wounded after being shot in his torso.

An initial investigation found that the two assailants mingled among the guest before launching the attack.

Local police presumed that causes of attack may be linked to a personal conflict or the southern insurgency. (MCOT online news)
