Yangon - Myanmar democracy champion Aung San Suu Kyi has been rapped by election authorities for repeatedly referring to her country as "Burma" in her speeches abroad, media reports said Friday.

The names were changed from Burma & Rangoon by the psychotic lunatics now in power in the country.

There is some justification for using Myanmar, but surely the way to change it would be to ask the people and then change if there is broad agreement, rather than machine-gun the people and then change it anyway.

Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination

well the locals call themselves burmese.

 

Not if they are Shan, Karen, Mon, Kachin, Arakanese etc. The name Burma comes from the Bama people - the largest ethcic minority in the Union.

 

Myanmar, a traditional name also, is actually considered more inclusive.
