SONGKHLA, June 23 - Residents living in hise-rise buildings in this southern province and Phuket reportedly felt the impact from a 6.3-magnitude earthquake that hit the north of the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Saturday.

However, no damages have been reported so far, according to Wanchai Sakudomchai, director of Southern Meteorological Center (East Coast) Songkhla, while tourists in Hat Yai district were not in a panic about the situation.

The quake struck on Saturday morning, about 60 kilometres west-southwest of Kabanjahe at a depth of 97 kilometres, according to the US Geological Survey. There have been no damages reports there as well. (MCOT online news)
