'Manage Attachments' disabled? Anyone know why?

The 'Manage Attachments' option, which allowed BMs to change their mind about photos posted in the past and Delete them at any time, is currently disabled.

I have asked a Mod' but he didn't know why and got the same message himself.

The function is still enabled on other Invision forums.

Can anyone tell me why please?

My first "me too" post! Would like to know, and hope it can be fixed asap in case of situations where a quick removal of a picture might be necessary....

We disabled this feature due to threats from several personalities over the years, (one 'hot' case recently, which ended in a banning) if guys would like their pictures removing, we can do it in a controlled fashion that is less destructive. We have found that this function has only been used as a sneaky weapon against us in the past, leaving threads totally randomly destroyed with moderators completely unaware. Its not fair on other members to have threads destroyed beyond repair.

If someone wants a picture deleting, they are welcome to PM a mod with a link to the thread or post. We try not to remove functions, but if they are abused in a way that they were not designed for, we have little choice.

If you are faced with an emergency, report the threads/pictures in question and then look to see what moderators are online and ask them via PM. If you get no response after 10 minutes, start a thread. Usually the report button is fast, as everyone is emailed immediately, which comes to my phone to.

I understand what you're saying, but you've taken away the right of the real 'owner' of the pic to withdraw it.

I have myself removed pics from threads in the past, for what I saw as good reasons for myself, but not necessarily for PA.

Yes, I know it says somewhere that all pics posted are the property of PA or whatever, but neither Thaivisa nor even Pattaya Live have resorted to taking this action.

Yes, I know I could ask a Mod' to remove pics, but he might not agree to and sometimes it needs doing NOW.

Anyway, that isn't the same as having the right to remove them. You've taken that away.

I especially think it''s wrong that it could also prevent one from removing photos from PMs, which really ought to belong to the BM IMO..

I get what you're saying about the hot issue of course, but I could get banned at any time too and I wouldn't want to leave what I see as my stuff behind and out of my control.

You've said in the past that the issue of 'ownership' of posted material is a figure of speech, but clearly it isn't.

I know you don't have to explain yourself, so your answer is appreciated.

Ultimately the only answer is for BMs to be aware of the rules and to post accordingly.... as I shall.

You can also have my phonenumber as a 24/7 hot-line in case of emergency, no joke!

Hi Edge,

Please do not worry about your pictures, we always take them down when people ask us to. I don't think there has been a case where we don't.

My phone number is in my profile and I am always meeting people, if I was a forum owner in hiding, then it would be a worry, but I enjoy a peaceful life and I also understand that people want to have a choice to remove or add pictures, which will never change.

This move we have done, has enabled us to have the choice to remove a thread and notify the people in that thread, that their posts are being deleted due to the main pictures being taken away.

We can't leave it as a tool to be threatened or to be punished, when a member isn't allowed to get away with breaking rules. We simply cant have top posters making demands on us, its happened consistently (but rarely) over the years. One particular member was escorted off the site for a similar offence. There was another guy that got brave, but had a good heart, that destroyed 100's of threads in the act of drunkeness and regretted it so much later, by his own admission.

That may be useful in a one off emergency where the girl's TBF is threatening to kill the BM (not necessarily a joke) or whatever but it doesn't address the much wider issue as I see it.

Anyway, as long as BMs understand what you've done it's up to them what they do about it.

Again, your answer on the board is appreciated. I tried to find out a different way but could not get an answer.

As you may have noticed, I cleaned out my closet whilst I still could. :Think1:

Hi Edge,

..........................................

I agree that I haven't had a problem getting pics removed - even other BMs' - but for my own I've never had to ask before.

I can only wonder whether you would have agreed to remove all my pics from my threads such as 'Play Mistys For Me', 'Big Knockers For A Change', 'When Pui Failed To Show', etc etc etc and even the original Pui thread I ran under my previous account.

In the current climate somehow I doubt it.

The reasons for removing them were various, but as the board has grown, so too has the issue of photo theft through downloading - an internet problem I know.

I'm not just talking about 'Showing', pics can reappear out of our control anywhere.

The point is that I posted all those photos in the past with the knowledge that I could remove them at any time as of right without asking anyone.

I've never considered that stuff I post should necessarily be there forever anyway.

Now you've changed that.

No matter, at least I now know.

Although I do see your side of the coin, and I have not much doubt that you will remove anything on request, I do not feel comfortable with this option at all. Not having full control of your own picture if faced with a psycho thai girl or her "brothers" isn't something I would like to experience. It is bad enough not being able to edit text that is more than a couple of days old...

Like Edge I will put this on mind and into the equation when considering if I should post a picture on the forum again, or use other external options.

It would probably be a good idea to let the PA members know about this option having been removed in some sort of broader way, as I doubt too many reads the posts in here.

Sad to see so many of the major picture posters have stopped posting, or almost stopped posting because of people showing their pictures to the girls. I'm afraid that taking away the option to control your own stuff wont help much in getting them back.

Posters come and go, thats the nature of the forums, people move on and change lifestyles.... as for not trusting us with removing your pictures..... thats totally up to you. We have a good honest team of moderators in place with no underhand stuff. But just remember, that you trust us with your name, privacy, emails etc. We don't read private messages like rival forums, that says something.

Anyway, these subjects have been done to death.

Sorry, but the fact that you have disabled 'Manage Attachments' is a new development and not done to death at all.

As for the comparison with rival forums, who may or may not read PMs (who knows?) none of those I'm aware of (eg Thaivisa, Pattaya Live, Secrets) have resorted to disabling this option.
