Anti-govt insurgent killed in southern mountain clash

NARATHIWAT, June 8 - A suspected anti-government insurgent was shot dead during a clash with a joint army and marine force in Narathiwat on Friday.

Army soldiers and marines inspected an area on Budo Mountain in Bacho district in response to the movement of Runda Kumpulan Kecil (RKK) insurgents there.

During their search, they encountered a group of armed men, and exchanged gunfire with six of them. 

After 20 minutes of shooting, the security personnel retrieved the body of an as yet unidentified gunman with an M-16 assault rifle, lying beside him. The rest of the gunmen seen in the area escaped from the mountainside where the clash took place.

The body was carried down from the mountain for an autopsy and identification. (MCOT online news)
