PATTANI, May 28 – Three Thai government security volunteers were killed Monday and four others were wounded when their vehicle was targeted in a roadside bombing as they were on patrol in Kapho district.

Investigating police said the defence volunteer patrol was targeted by a hidden roadside explosive device. The explosion also destroyed the pickup truck.

Meanwhile, in nearby Yala province a municipality office worker was shot in the head by two assailants outside the office. She was taken to Yala hospital, where she is in serious condition.

The victim, identified as Mayuri Sai-uma, 32, was walking to her car at about 1pm when she was shot by two men on a motorcycle.

Police are investigating whether the assault is insurgency-related. (MCOT Online news)
