Police arrest 12 Taiwanese in call centre scam based in Chon Buri

CHON BURI, May 26 -- Police arrest 12 Taiwanese in call centre scam based in Chon Buri province along with an array of communication devices and notebook computers.

Chon Buri's Bang Lamung police station superintendent Pol Col Somchai Sunthonvanik led police to search a rented house in Bang Lamung district which was suspected of being the headquarters of a foreign call centre scam, deceiving victims to transfer money to the syndicate.

Three houses were build on the complex of more than 2 rai of land (0.8 acre).

Upon search, police arrested a total of 12 Taiwanese nationals, both male and female, including Mr Chen Chin-Shan, 36, who was the leader of the gang.

Police also seized office equipment, notebook computers, communication devices for internet access and notebooks.

Authorities also searched another rented house where this group was staying before moving to the aforementioned house.

Police found an additional 25 telephones, eight notebook computers and modems for internet access.

Mr Chen Chin-Shan also faced additional charges after he tried to bribe police with Bt1.5 million to release him.

Police said the main leader of the syndicate had fled the country on May 23 and Mr Chen Chin-Shan has stepped in as the new ringleader controlling the entire operation. (MCOT online news)

Call center for what exactly? The article says for "deceiving to transfer money to the syndicate". It would be nice if they educated readers on how this scam works.
