Tailored suits : what is the real price and where?

Hi guys, I would appreciate some help on this. I just found a new job that requires to wear a suit every day. I have a long leave between the 2 jobs and I am planning a 4 weeks holiday in Thailand...

Where can I go to get 3 suits made without getting ripped off? what is the usual price for one?

Thanks in advance for your help! :)

I bought a suit/shirt/tie of a fella just off Beach Road near The Big Mikes, drove a hard bargain it is super 180s(higher number means better quality) and Boss lining and styling (from pic supplied-although they are very generic on certain parts of the suit, like pockets and cut.,I paid 3350 baht.

I am well aware that there are hundreds of cheaper prices avaiable but I doubt you will beat the price for s180. Get a sample of the fabric from your first shop and ask the next shop to beat it.

I think there is one near the saphire lodge. I don't know if it's still going? but there used to be a discount for being a BM on here! and I think the quality was quite good too.

Thanks all!

I'll check these places out and will tell you how it goes.

I once had a bad experience in Bangkok with an Indian tailor (Kao San Road area).

This place is right next door to Sapphire lodge opposite the Asia hotel.

Not bought a suit from them but have had shirts, trousers and shorts and am very happy with them.

If it flies, floats or fucks - it will be cheaper to rent !

I've known Bill (Sir Marlow) for 30+ years he is a great guy who

speaks English,German and of course Thai. Go down walking

street about half way and his shop is on the right, he is a funny

guy who is always ready to help anyone. Oh and he makes great

cloths.

There is no such thing as 'regular price'. Not all suits are the same.

The price depends largely on the quality of the fabric you choose. If you want some cheap polyester blend, it will be cheap price. If you pick some swanky wool/cashmere blend, it won't be cheap at all.

Remember, labor is cheap. Fabric is expensive. Custom clothing is more prevalent because of this in a country like Thailand. They would rather give you custom clothing than put every size on the rack and waste all that expensive fabric.

Are they generally good quality and craftsmanship? Might considering buying one when I'm out there, or at least a sports jacket.

They are pretty good quality, the skill to make the suits are good, but it's all about the fabric you're using. if u're worried about tht you can bring your own fabric and they will use it to make a suit for you. I know quite a few people who do this and love their suits.

Slightly off topic but I recently visited Lahore and the Anarkali Bazzar a masive collection of clothes shops that goes on for miles with shops that contained hundreds of suits all priced at 3/4000 pkrs ( £30 UK) when I asked if made locally reply was no imported from Thailand all very good quality so if they are selling for £30 they must have bought for £15 each  or less , they are all the same quality as i have seen hanging in the shops just not made to measure, same materials, linings etc

Samui there's plenty of tailors shops. Haggle with them and you'll get a cheap deal

If you want to miss out the middlemen (Indian/Nepalese shopkeepers) the actual tailors (Thai) are located in places like Soi Day & Night out the back of TukCom.

Prices vary according to the cloth chosen, but 3500 is about right for a decent suit.
