iPhone on Verizon

Is there a cost-effective way to use my iPhone 4 (Verizon) for a two-week visit to Pattaya? I would like to use it for phone, email and as a wireless hot spot and not spend a fortune on roaming charges. Or is it better just to buy a local phone for use in Thailand?

Buy a local phone. You will not be able to get it jailbroke / unlocked if it is regular iphone 4.

verizon=cdma and will not accept a sim card (gsm) u can however jailbreak the 4/4s no problem, google it ;)

I just unlocked my i-phone 4 by having my carrier (ATT) contact Apple and requesting the unlock. Since I use the 4S for my local phone, they had no problem unlocking my 4 for international use. Apple e-mailed me to backup and restore thru I-tunes and it was done.
