Snorkeling

Hi boys,

Went to Pattaya last year for a week, but didn't do much exploring apart from the bar scene, understandably. Heading back next month for a few weeks and would like to get some snorkeling in most days. I used to go to Phuket, but I'm more about Pattaya now and basically I'm clueless about anything beyond the bars and women.

Any advice on the best spots, how to get there and costs?

Cheers. Fantasmas

The only thing your likely to see around Pats are Brown Trout of which some may stil have Bog Roll on them

Pats and the surrounding area is not high on the list of Snorkel spots

So there are no worthwhile day trips to go on?

Obviously pattaya beach is rubbish, but surely there is something further down the coast or nearby islands, right?

There are some 'snorkeling sites' on the islands and day trips are available from most dive shops.

But both the diving and snorkeling in and around Pattaya is crap, if you are really looking to go snorkeling I would change your holiday destination to somewhere in South Thailand on the Andaman coast.

If you are still set on Pattaya being your holiday destination, I would look for another activity rather than snorkeling.

Yes they do, but it is generally just a money spinner for the dive shops and a way of filling up their boats. Trips are geared for divers, not snorklers. I have been as a diving customer on such boats all around Thailand and the rest of the world. Seldom can the two activities work succesfully side by side.

In my mind there are lots of better things in Pattaya to do with 1000-1500bt than looking at dead coral and litter, because unfortunately that is predominantly what the local underwater marine life consists of.
